Chemicals,
fuel, high pressure, and high temperatures often damage seals. Therefore, the
chosen gasket material should be resistant to chemicals,
abrasion-resistant, and rust-free. The choice depends on its application.
Different types of gaskets to choose from include:
1. Gold
Seal:
Metal
gaskets are also called ring gaskets or RTJ (ring-type) gaskets. A metal alloy
provides these marks in the correct shape and size. Some materials used to
manufacture steel gaskets include low-carbon steel, stainless steel, mild
steel, and Monel.
Metal
gaskets are commonly found in valves and pipes, and refinery assemblies. They
are used in high-pressure class flanges (e.g., oil and gas supply production)
and high-temperature applications to provide excellent reliability.
On the
other hand, there must be a high resistance when using metal joints.
2.
Non-metallic seals:
The
non-metal gasket material is a rubber gasket, which can be easily
compressed, and the bottom tension bolts. They can be used with heat
exchangers, pipe flanges, and compressor valve seals.
The

Free Absorbent Fiber (CNAF)
Teflon
Rubber
Graphite

On the
other hand, non-metallic seals are used in low-pressure applications (about 150
and 300 class) and typical temperature applications. Despite this, graphite
gaskets are commonly found at high temperatures and work at temperatures as
high as 460 degrees centigrade.
These
graphite materials are also used for flat-face and high-face flanges, while
full-face and basic ring gasket types are used for flat-face and high-face
flanges. The cheapest type of gaskets are non-metallic gaskets, and they are
fast.

Mica: It is suitable for high-temperature applications

synthetic rubbers that can withstand extreme weather conditions. Fiberglass:
Glass is a combination of silicate metal. It has good strength, heat
resistance, and chemical resistance. Cellulose: This material is suitable for
low and medium pressure and temperature applications.
Ethylene
Propylene: Suitable for
applications involving corrosive liquids and hydraulics.
3. Mixed marks:
Composite
gaskets are made from a combination of metals and non-metals. Metal parts
provide strength and stability, while non-metal components provide support and
seal.
Some
examples of composite gaskets include cam profile gaskets, metal sheaths, and
spiral wound gaskets. This item is popular with raised faces, male-to-male, and
tongue-and-groove flanges.
Likewise,
it should be noted that composite seals are available for a variety of
operating conditions, including high-temperature and pressure applications. In
addition, they are relatively inexpensive when compared to metal brands. Care
must be taken when handling them.
